Aaron
Garrett as Rodney
Aaron
has been seriously acting for 7 years and when asked, he has no
idea why he got into it. "I guess it was just a natural progression
for me, I was always up to some scam in one way or another, this
was just the legal way to explore that creative side of my personality."
Well no matter what the reason that got him into acting, it was
worth it. As the character of Rodney in the new horror film SideFX,
Aaron brings realism and complexity to the often over acted "Geek"
role in a horror film. " I love horror movies and I was quite
aware of the formula for the teen slasher genre, so I knew what
was expected of my character, but I didn't want to play it to stereotype.
I really wanted to make Rodney a real person, one you couldn't write
off easily. Lucky for me Patrick the director also wrote the script
and he was on the same page with this idea." " I was very
excited about the approach Aaron was taking toward Rodney"
says Patrick of Aaron's ideas. " I told everyone that I wanted
the characters to play as real, and Rodney was ripe for over the
top acting and cheap gag humor, but I knew that would insult the
audience and take them out of the tone of the film. There is nothing
wrong with horror film comedies, but this was just not one of those
type of films. Aaron understood that and took it to it like it was
a serious drama, and that plays great."
Aaron
is nothing like the character Rodney, and it is hard to believe
how different they are until you meet Aaron. "I knew guys like
Rodney, and I knew that even though they act meek and subservient,
they are very aware of what they are doing, and what people think
of them, they just choose to accept their role in order to hang
out with the so called cool crowd. But most geeks are smart people
so don't let them fool you they are working you as much more than
you think, and I tried to show that with Rodney." Aaron says
this as he looks around the small cafe where he is eating lunch.
" You see that guy over there?" He points to a guy slumped
down at a nearby table. " Used to be geeks like that were picked
on, but now people think they are going to snap and shoot everyone
in the place at any moment, so there is a subtle shift in perception
that has occurred, I needed to tap into that. The world has changed,
as an actor you have to be aware of that you can't just rely on
the same old stereotypes."
