The
character Matt is played by Todd Swift.
If the face looks familiar it may be because, Todd got his start
in front of the camera as a Model. He worked for lots of famous
photographers and such as Bruce Webber and was in campaigns for
Ambercrombie & Finch. He got into the acting game about 5 years
ago but isn't exactly sure of the actual day he decided to give
it his full attention. " I don't know when it hit me that I
was an actor really. It sort of sneaks up on you. I started taking
some acting classes, as a way to keep creative and get a better
sense of myself. It was a lot of fun then I got into some small
parts in local plays, did a few shorts, some commercials and the
next thing I know I scored some roles in some feature films. It
just sort of snowballed really."
For
his role as Matt in the horror flick "SideFx" Todd decided
he wasn't going to let the genre or the stereotypes of horror film
characters hold him back. " I read the script and immediately
understood who this guy was and what his motivations were. Yeah,
sure he comes off like a schmuck, but all he really wants is to
be popular. We all know people like that. So I tried to keep the
guy grounded. Sure I could have played up the sleaze factor, but
at the end of the day his actions speak for themselves so I went
with the less is more theory. And I think it worked, and the director
liked the angle and encouraged me along those lines so I think it
really worked. Patrick the director was very concerned about it
accidently becoming a farce, so he was very strict about not letting
things get out of hand, which can easily happen in a film like this."
As
for his Modeling career, he says he is still doing some work but
has turned his attention to acting and being behind the camera.
" I loved the work [modeling] don't get me wrong, but the longer
you do it the more you learn and if you are like me, you want to
do more, learn more, have more control. The obvious next step was
to move to the photography side of things. What has been great is
the amount of support I have received from professional photographers
I know, they have been really supportive and willing to teach me
all they can."
